4 out of 5 stars Very good camera for the price.   August 27, 2010
E. Williams (NYC)
Pros: decent motion capture trigger, web interface is pretty good. Mounting system is pretty flexible and works well.

Cons: Locks up about once a day. Default webserver requires active-x or JRE to enable streaming video, but MJPG is available (see below).

The solution to that is to plug it in to an outlet timer that cycles the power once a day. With that, works well.

---
tips:
Configuring wireless: when setting up wireless, make sure "upnp" is checked. If your router doesn't support that, make sure to open the port manually, or you likely will not be able to connect to the camera wirelessly.

Accessing from non IE browsers: you probably won't be able to access real-time video on non-IE browsers unless you have JRE installed on your device. To get around that limitation, use this URL: //server:port/cgi/mjpg/mjpg.cgi

Overall: very powerful device that has a few quirks.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to setup and work great...   August 21, 2010
S. Charney (Paris, TX)
I purchased two of these recently. I was a little skeptical, but after reading all the reviews, couldn't pass up on the price. We've been wanted to setup a wireless security system for some time, so finally broke down and purchased these. The setup via the installation CD makes getting them on your home wireless network a breeze. The setup for remote viewing was a little more complex, but once I found a TRENDnet DIY setup on YouTube, life was a breeze. They went step by step on how to setup the remote viewing.

From start to finish, all setup and running in about two hours. That included the time looking online for how to do the remote viewing. The SecurView software is great, as you can watch up to 16 cameras live. Works great with two cameras. Does bog down my PC a bit if I want to multi-task, but if all I'm watching is the cameras, it works great.

Great product, plan to buy more TrendNet Cameras to complete the system.

1 out of 5 stars Stops after a few days, needs to be rebooted   August 12, 2010
Manoj Nair (Boulder)
Bought this camera to take pictures of my back yard, while we were away for a 6-weeks long vacation. The setup was OK, the wireless is bit tricky, especially if your internet is encrypted. The pictures are OK... The motion detection is software based and can trigger large number of emails and flood your inbox. I fixed it on my outer-wall. I didn't use the software came along with it.. All the setup can be done with IE (not Firefox !). After 2-3 days, I stopped getting emails !!. Found that that it needs to be rebooted after 2-3 days :-(.. Which makes this completely useless. Also, it wouldn't support any SSL/encrypted smtp servers - which will exclude most of the popular email providers (only for sending, not receiving). I tried with an email server which didn't require encryption.. But I noticed a lot of spam messages originating from my address shortly afterwords :-) . be careful when sending the user name and password unencrypted. The dynamic dns service works, but it is useless if it is behind a DSL router (It detect the IP changes from router, not the ISP provider).

4 out of 5 stars Love the quality. Wish it had Mac Software.   August 6, 2010

Quality is great for the price. It takes a little extra know how to setup with OS X since it doesn't have a quick installer. I'm going to purchase a few more. Cam Viewer works great with iPhone 4.

5 out of 5 stars Nice camera   July 19, 2010
Deke Thompson (Wallingford, CT)
This works well for local and remote monitoring. The included instructions make local setup simple, but for remote setup you should watch the video from TrendNet on Amazon and Youtube. The shows you how to set up the camera and a router with a free DNS service, which adapts to a changing IP address from your service provider. I have seen the camera freeze occasionally, but a reset from the web browser will start it up again. The date and time will have to be set, too.
